The Anchorage Daily News will see some changes in its leadership as the editor and publisher are set to depart, owner and president Ryan Binkley announced recently. Editor David Hulen, who has served for over 38 years, will retire on March 15, while publisher Andy Pennington is leaving on Feb. 3 to become regional president and publisher for Adams Publishing Group in Southern Wisconsin.

After Pennington’s departure, Binkley will take over as publisher, with managing editor Vicky Ho stepping in as interim editor. Kea Cuaresma, ADN’s chief revenue officer, will become vice president of revenue and community engagement. These changes are part of a new phase for the ADN, as Binkley expressed excitement for the future.

Hulen, known for his role in the organization’s digital transition and award-winning reporting, will leave a lasting impact on the ADN. Pennington was credited for helping the company recover from bankruptcy, while Ho’s expertise in digital transformation will guide the newsroom during the transition. Binkley emphasized the importance of overcoming industry challenges to ensure the ADN’s sustainability.

Despite facing obstacles like reduced print publication and the need for increased digital subscriptions, the ADN remains committed to serving its readers and advertisers. Binkley praised the team’s dedication and resilience, highlighting the importance of adaptability and hard work in navigating the evolving landscape of the news industry.
