The Alaska Bar Association is offering free legal consultations on MLK Day in Anchorage, Bethel, Fairbanks, and Juneau. Low to moderate-income Alaskans can receive assistance from volunteer attorneys on civil legal issues such as family law, landlord/tenant disputes, and more. The event will take place at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College on January 20th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event is a partnership between the Alaska Bar Association, Alaska Legal Services Corporation, and local attorneys. In addition to the in-person consultations, Alaskans can also access an online virtual legal clinic hosted by the Alaska Bar Association.
Lea McKenna, the Pro Bono Director of the Alaska Bar Association, emphasized the importance of using MLK Day as a ‘day on, not a day off’ to give back to the community. The demand for free legal services in Alaska is significant, and the legal community is dedicated to meeting this need with generosity and dedication.
This initiative aims to provide accessible legal assistance to those who may not otherwise be able to afford it. The event is part of a larger effort to strengthen the community and support individuals in navigating legal challenges. The Alaska Bar Association encourages all those in need of legal help to take advantage of this opportunity on MLK Day.
