Press Release: Escalation of Violence in the West Bank Amid Settler Attacks

Israeli settlers have escalated violence in the occupied West Bank, setting fire to farmland and vandalizing property in the village of Khirbet Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah. This incident, which occurred on Thursday night, involved a group of settlers burning a shed and spray-painting racist slogans in Hebrew, as reported by Palestinian news agency Wafa. Palestinian civil defense teams extinguished the fire, with no injuries reported.

These acts of violence coincide with a call from Ronen Bar, head of Israel’s internal security agency Shin Bet, urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to permit a significant military offensive in the West Bank. The recent spate of attacks follows the shooting deaths of three Israeli settlers near the settlement of Kedumim, which has led to increased aggression from settler groups.

In the past week, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that at least 18 Palestinians have been injured due to settler violence, and Israeli forces have killed three Palestinians, including a teenager. This week’s violence also included a drone strike in Tammun that resulted in the deaths of three Palestinians, two of whom were children.

Israeli military operations are intensifying, with ongoing raids across various towns and villages, resulting in several arrests. Notably, Israeli forces in Qabatiya launched projectiles at a targeted house, while multiple arrests were reported in Nablus and surrounding areas.

Bar has highlighted the need for a "reality-changing move" to dismantle armed Palestinian groups and ensure operational freedom in the region, reflecting a broader strategy of military aggression following recent attacks. As tensions soar, the situation in the West Bank remains precarious.
