In a tragic accident on Thursday night, a man lost his life and two others were injured in a head-on collision involving a semi-truck on the Seward Highway near Girdwood, as reported by the Anchorage Police. The collision occurred between a southbound semi and a northbound Kia Sorento SUV, resulting in the death of the SUV driver at the scene. The two occupants of the semi were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident led to the closure of the highway at Mile 91, between Bird Point and Girdwood, with the road reopening for alternating traffic around 1 a.m. and fully reopening by 6 a.m. on Friday. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and authorities have not determined what led to the tragic accident.
