Anchorage police have charged Trevor Stefano, 38, with attempted murder, assault, and weapons misconduct after he allegedly shot a Government Hill resident who was also a local attorney. Stefano, who was once an employee of the victim, was shot and wounded by police after refusing to drop his weapon and fleeing towards the front of the house where the shooting occurred. Both Stefano and the homeowner were critically injured and underwent multiple surgeries. Witnesses revealed that Stefano had a history of violence and had been stalking a woman after they had briefly dated. Stefano had been on parole since 2021 after being convicted of a murder in 2006.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when police were called to the 700 block of Hollywood Drive for reports of gunfire. Stefano was seen breaking windows with a pistol before shooting the victim multiple times. Police returned fire, striking Stefano several times. A woman who had briefly interacted with Stefano earlier that day reported seeing multiple guns in his vehicle and hearing him talk about shooting someone at a house.
Stefano remains hospitalized under police observation, and this incident comes just one day after another armed robbery suspect was shot and wounded by police. Police Chief Sean Case provided new details about the shooting at a news conference, emphasizing the quick response by officers to the dangerous situation. Stefano’s prior criminal history and violent behavior have raised concerns about public safety in the community.
