The Central Washington University men’s basketball team returned from their road trip to Alaska with two wins after defeating the University of Alaska Anchorage 64-52. Head Coach Brandon Rinta praised the team’s defensive effort, highlighting Maverick Sanders’ double-double performance and Jordan and Cavin’s assists. Sanders earned 15 points, 10 rebounds, and led in blocks and steals, while Jordan Clark recorded 14 points and five assists. The ‘Cats shot .531 from the field, holding the Seawolves to .339 and went 8-8 in free throws.
In the first half, Alaska Anchorage started strong with an 11-3 lead, but the Wildcats mounted a comeback and ended the half with a 31-23 lead. In the second half, Central continued their momentum with a 7-5 run to lead 38-28, but the Seawolves responded with a 9-2 run. The teams traded points until Central went on an 11-0 run to lead 57-44. The Wildcats maintained their lead to finish off the Seawolves 64-52.
The Wildcats will now return home to face the Seattle Pacific University Falcons on Thursday, January 16 at Nicholson Arena. The team showed a lot of toughness during their Alaska trip and will be looking to continue their winning streak on their home court.Fans can catch the action and support the ‘Cats as they aim to secure another victory in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
