The family of University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki, who went missing in the Dominican Republic during spring break, has requested police to declare her dead as her body has not been found despite extensive search efforts. Konanki was last seen on March 6 after going to the beach with friends, and it is believed that the last person to have seen her was Joshua Riibe. Authorities have not found any signs of violence at the beach, and red flags were flying indicating dangerous conditions. Riibe, who was with Konanki before she disappeared, has been cooperating with investigators and is not considered a suspect. He described being in waist-deep water with Konanki before a wave took them out to sea, but he managed to get her back to shore before she disappeared. U.S. authorities have classified this as a missing persons case rather than a criminal matter, and no one has been named as a suspect in Konanki’s disappearance. Konanki’s family has requested authorities in the Dominican Republic to declare her dead as they continue to search for answers.
