Alaska Mother Charged After Allegedly Leaving Child in Cold Car During “Romantic Rendezvous”

Lillian Johnson, a 38-year-old mother from Alaska, has been arrested on a first-degree charge of endangering the welfare of her child after allegedly leaving her 20-month-old in a car while having a “romantic rendezvous” at a hotel in Healy, Alaska. The child was found abandoned in the car with outside temperatures at 6 degrees Fahrenheit, leading to signs of hypothermia.

The incident came to light when a concerned citizen heard the child crying in the parked car and called dispatchers. Emergency services were called to the scene to treat the child for the early stages of hypothermia, after which they were taken to the EMS/Fire Department for further treatment. The child’s mother was not immediately found when the toddler was transported.

An investigation by the Alaska State Troopers revealed that Johnson was inside the hotel for about 35 minutes before returning to check on her child, only to find the 20-month-old missing. The security video from the hotel showed that she had left the child in the car to have a romantic affair with a guest.

Authorities did not provide updates on the child’s status but warned about the dangers of hypothermia in infants, who can easily develop the condition due to an underdeveloped mechanism for maintaining body temperature. Signs of hypothermia in babies include blotchy skin, being cold to the touch, and appearing limp.
