Resident Hunters of Alaska Gather for Annual Banquet Amid Alaska Board of Game Meeting
The Resident Hunters of Alaska (RHAK) held their annual gathering at the Egan Center, coinciding with the Alaska Board of Game meeting over the weekend. The RHAK banquet included a cash bar, live auction, and dinner, with Executive Director Mark Richards emphasizing the organization’s advocacy for sustainable hunting for Alaska residents since its founding in 2016.
While the banquet took place on the ground level, the Board of Game meeting was simultaneously underway downstairs. With over 80 regulatory proposals on the table for discussion, topics ranged from statewide hunting and trapping provisions to region-specific issues. One hotly debated topic was the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s request for an emergency regulation to reinstate the Mulchatna bear predator control program, despite a recent court ruling halting the program due to due process violations.
Kristy Tibbles, Regional Coordinator for the ADFG, announced that public comment on the matter is set to resume on March 23. The gathering served as an opportunity for hunters to voice their concerns and opinions on wildlife management, regulations, and conservation efforts.
