The U.S. government is considering selling more than 440 federal buildings nationwide, including the iconic pink-painted Ketchikan Federal Building in Alaska. The General Services Administration released a list of “non-core property” that could be disposed of to eliminate costly maintenance and reinvest in high-quality work environments that support agency missions. In addition to the Ketchikan building, three Anchorage properties, including a historic garage and courthouse annex, are also on the potential sale list. The future office space for federal agencies if these properties are sold remains unclear. The Fairbanks Federal Building and Juneau Federal Building are not currently on the list for potential sale. Selling these properties would ensure that taxpayer dollars are no longer spent on vacant or underutilized federal spaces, according to the GSA. The decision to sell these buildings comes as part of the government’s efforts to streamline operations and cut costs. Stay tuned for more updates on the potential sale of these federal properties.
