The University of Alaska Fairbanks recently held its 102nd commencement ceremony at the Carlson Center, with 31 student-athletes among the graduates. Tori Shoemaker, captain of the Nanooks swim team, delivered the Class Speaker speech for the Class of 2024. Five students earned summa cum laude honors, four earned magna cum laude, and two earned cum laude honors. Among the student-athletes who graduated were Demarcus Hall-Scriven and Terrell Peter from Men’s Basketball, Emma McKenney and Destiny Reimers from Women’s Basketball, and Max Beiergrohslein from Cross Country & Nordic Ski.
In addition to the student-athletes, graduates from Men’s Ice Hockey, Women’s Swimming, Mixed Rifle, and Women’s Volleyball were also recognized for their academic achievements. Notable graduates include Lainey Lioi, who earned an MBA in Business Administration, and Marina Gonzalez Mazo, who received a B.F.A in Art. The university celebrated the accomplishments of all graduates and highlighted the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes who balanced academics and sports throughout their time at UAF.
The ceremony was a day of celebration for the graduates, their families, and the entire university community. The Class of 2024 has shown determination and perseverance in their academic and athletic pursuits, setting a high standard for future graduates. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is proud to have such talented and dedicated individuals as part of its student body and wishes them success in their future endeavors.
