Jaylen Wells of the Grizzlies rushed to hospital following midair collision during dunk try

Memphis Grizzlies’ rookie guard Jaylen Wells broke his right wrist during a game against Charlotte, likely ending his season right before the playoffs. Wells landed awkwardly after a midair collision while going up for a dunk, causing him to be stretchered off the court with his head immobilized. He had movement in all extremities and was alert at the hospital. His father reported that he had pain in his face, jaw, and back. The collision resulted in a delay of the game and Wells’ teammate, Ja Morant, expressed concern and asked for prayers for his recovery. The player responsible for the collision was ejected from the game for unnecessary contact. Wells, a 2024 second-round draft pick, had started 74 of 79 games for Memphis and was averaging 10.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Despite the win, the Grizzlies are now facing the possibility of dropping to eighth place in the Western Conference standings. The team and fans are now rallying around Wells and wishing him a speedy recovery.
