Technology improves safety in Oak Lawn, say local police

Oak Lawn Trustee Commends Police Department for Apprehension of Home Intruder

Oak Lawn Trustee Alex Olejniczak expressed his gratitude to the Oak Lawn Police Department for their quick response and use of technology in the arrest of a man who broke into a home at 94th and Parkside. The trustee commended the police for their use of drones and license plate readers, which have helped in monitoring neighborhoods and apprehending offenders.

Mayor Terry Vorderer reassured residents that the technology, including license plate readers, is not an invasion of privacy as images are purged every 30 days. Other trustees also praised the efficiency of the police department and the deterrent effect it has on criminals.

In addition to discussing police technology, Trustee Olejniczak addressed traffic concerns due to construction at Oak Lawn Community High School and a new traffic light near the school parking lot. Mayor Vorderer highlighted the success of the Hometown Heroes program, which honors veterans with banners along main streets in the village.

The trustees also emphasized the importance of safe driving in the community, reminding residents of all ages to drive cautiously. The village will be recognizing “Arbor Day in Oak Lawn” until April 25 with special events and activities. Families interested in honoring veterans with banners can contact Village Hall to have them installed.
