Dr. Ingolf Tuerk of Dover, Massachusetts was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, Kathleen McLean, whom he is accused of strangling and dumping in a pond in 2020. The jury found him guilty of the lesser charge instead of first-degree murder. Tuerk is scheduled to be sentenced on May 16, leaving McLean’s family feeling that justice was not served. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued that the killing was not premeditated, but rather a reaction to McLean’s plan to gain control of Tuerk’s money and assets. Prosecutors argued that Tuerk was cool, calm, and collected when disposing of McLean’s body, motivated by fear of losing his money and house and not wanting another divorce. Tuerk admitted to the killing and testified that he blacked out and strangled McLean after she hit him in the head with a glass during a night of drinking. Tuerk, originally from East Germany, recounted how he put McLean’s body in a pond and watched it float to the surface. The trial began on March 27 and Tuerk could face sentencing in May.
