Accusations fly as Russia and Ukraine continue strikes after U.S. envoy departs Moscow

Russia and Ukraine’s top diplomats engaged in a war of words during a conference in Turkey, accusing each other of violating a US-brokered deal to pause strikes on energy infrastructure. Despite agreeing to a limited ceasefire last month, both sides issued conflicting statements regarding breaches of the deal. Russia claimed Ukraine had been attacking them almost daily, while Ukraine accused Russia of launching thousands of missiles and bombs at civilians since the ceasefire was agreed upon. Ukraine’s European allies pledged financial support to help them in the conflict with Russia.

The situation remains tense, with Russia holding the advantage in Ukraine and Kyiv warning of a potential spring offensive by Moscow. A proposed US-backed agreement to ensure safe navigation for commercial vessels in the Black Sea was discussed, but Russia imposed conditions that must be met before it could be implemented. There have also been reports of Ukrainian losses, including the death of a pilot in the crash of an F-16 fighter jet.

Despite efforts to negotiate a ceasefire, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues with both sides accusing each other of violating agreements and engaging in deadly attacks. The international community has called for an end to the senseless violence, but reaching a peaceful resolution remains a challenge as both sides remain entrenched in their positions.
