Colony High School’s girls basketball team emerged victorious in the Alaska 4A Girls State Basketball Tournament championship game against Wasilla, with senior Tonya Karpow sealing the win with two crucial late free throws. The game was a nail-biting encounter with Colony almost losing their lead in the final minutes. This victory was redemption for Colony, who had lost to Wasilla in last year’s championship.
The game showcased the intense rivalry between the two schools, with both teams displaying great skill and determination. Despite trailing early on, Colony staged a comeback fueled by their stellar defense. Karpow’s 20 points, along with Annelise Larsen’s eight points, were key to Colony’s success.
