Josh Sullivan, a 35-year-old American pastor from Tennessee, was kidnapped at gunpoint in South Africa while serving as a missionary. He had been living in South Africa with his wife and children since 2018. The kidnapping occurred when armed men raided Sullivan’s congregation in Motherwell and forced him into his own truck, which was later found abandoned nearby. The Hawks, a branch of the South African Police Service, is investigating the abduction and has stated that their top priority is the safe return of the victim. Sullivan’s whereabouts remain unknown, and his family has requested prayers for his safe return. His mother, Tonya Rinker, expressed heartbreak on Facebook and described him as a God-fearing and God-serving son. The Fellowship Baptist Church, where Sullivan is affiliated, has asked followers to pray for him. In the days following the kidnapping, the church faced questions and criticism about why it sends out missionaries, to which they responded that God commanded them to do so. The State Department is aware of the kidnapping of a U.S. citizen in South Africa. The search for Sullivan continues, and anyone with information on the case is urged to come forward.
