ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Southcentral Alaska is currently experiencing strong winds, with gusts reaching over 90 mph in South Anchorage, over 70 mph in Portage, and near 50 mph in Homer, Kenai, and Palmer. The windy conditions are expected to continue through early Thursday morning.

The high wind warning for the hillsides of Anchorage and Eagle River, as well as Portage, is set to expire at 1 a.m. Gusty winds, snow, and wintry mix are also affecting areas of the Aleutians and Southwest Alaska.

As of noon, there are multiple power outages being reported by the Homer Electric Association. Sterling has over 200 customers without power, while over 50 people south of Kasilof and over 1,200 customers near Ninichik and Happy Valley have also reported power outages.
