Senator Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, recently discussed the progress of getting a liquefied natural gas pipeline in Alaska in a sit-down interview with Alaska’s News Source. He mentioned hosting a meeting with key stakeholders, including the Governor and the private sector company Glenfarne, to move the project forward. Sullivan also had a conversation with President Trump about including Alaska LNG in tariff negotiations with key allies.
The Senator highlighted his relationship with the Vice President of Taiwan, who expressed interest in becoming a major buyer of Alaska LNG. Sullivan emphasized the importance of securing long-term offtake contracts to finance the project, especially with natural gas reserves in Cook Inlet dwindling.
Sullivan acknowledged the skepticism surrounding the Alaska LNG project after decades of talk, but remained optimistic, pointing to the support from the Trump administration and the potential benefits of the project for Alaska. He emphasized the need for collaboration and a concerted effort to make the project a reality.
While acknowledging that the project is not an immediate solution, Sullivan expressed confidence in the current stakeholder lineup and the promising opportunities to finally see the LNG pipeline project through. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to pushing for the development of the pipeline to benefit Alaskans and strengthen the state’s economy.
