James Kim Highlights Korea-U.S. Partnership at Amcham Energy Forum
James Kim, chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (Amcham Korea), emphasized the importance of the Korea-U.S. partnership at an energy forum held on April 18 in Seoul.
With tariff negotiations between Korea and the United States approaching a critical stage, U.S. officials are urging Korea to actively participate in the Alaska LNG project. Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy stressed that Korea’s involvement in the $44 billion project would strengthen ties between Seoul and Washington.
Tommy Joyce, from the U.S. Department of Energy, highlighted Korea’s role in supporting President Trump’s energy vision and building supply chains independent of China.
The Alaska LNG project, involving a 1,300-kilometer pipeline, aims to transport natural gas from Alaska to international markets. Despite past challenges, Kim believes Korea’s contribution could enhance trade ties between the two countries.
Minister Ahn Duk-geun of Korea’s trade, industry, and energy sector expressed support for bilateral energy integration with the United States, emphasizing the need for a resilient energy supply system.
Ahn, along with Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, is set to visit the United States for discussions with the Trump administration, potentially strengthening energy cooperation between the two nations.
