Lily Tuzroyluke Signs “Sivulliq: Ancestor” at Alaska Native Book Fair
Lily Tuzroyluke, the noted author of “Sivulliq: Ancestor,” was seen signing books at the Alaska Native Book Fair held in Anchorage. The event, organized by the Alaska Native Media Group, showcased over a dozen Indigenous authors, bringing together published writers and aspiring talents. The fair serves as a platform for authors to share their stories with the community and inspire young writers.
Holly Miowak Guise, an Iñupiaq author, presented her book “Alaska Native Resilience: Voices from World War II,” which sheds light on the experiences of Alaska Native elders during the war. Another highlight was Barbara Jacko Atwater and Ethan Atwater, who shared children’s books based on Dena’ina fables passed down through generations.
Joni Kitmiiq Spiess, an Iñupiaq author, introduced “Alaska Native Games and How to Play Them,” a book that educates readers on traditional Indigenous games. Additionally, Miranda Miller’s therapy dog Arya Bear, made an appearance, drawing attention with her unique style and comforting presence.
The event featured various authors, including the acclaimed Lily Tuzroyluke, who gained recognition for her book’s portrayal of Alaska Native history. As readers lined up to get their copies signed, Tuzroyluke expressed her gratitude for the support, especially from Indigenous women who resonate with her work.
