In Memoriam: Dan Fagan, A Pillar of Alaska’s Conservative Landscape
By Bernadette Wilson
Dan Fagan, a cornerstone of Alaska’s conservative community, passed away recently, leaving behind a profound legacy. Known as a relentless advocate for conservative values, Dan stood as a bulwark against political challenges, always striving for victory while personally absorbing the weight of defeats, seeing each loss as a reflection of his own efforts.
Dan’s commitment transcended mere political ambitions; he viewed his role as part of a spiritual battle for good. While many in politics come and go, Dan remained an unwavering force, providing invaluable perspective coupled with a refreshing accountability. His hope for Alaska—and his faith in God—were nothing short of inspiring.
I first met Dan at 18, and his encouragement became a critical catalyst in my career. He recognized my potential in articulating conservative ideas and invited me onto his radio show. This mentorship extended to television, and Daniel’s guidance was instrumental when I transitioned to radio, where we frequently collaborated, drafting op-eds and bouncing ideas off each other.
As our friendship deepened, Dan remained a steadfast supporter through various personal and political endeavors, urging me to pursue public office and providing counsel during significant life decisions. Our last conversation took place while he was hospitalized, where we reminisced about our journey, sharing gratitude and tears as we acknowledged his influence on my career.
Dan might have left us, but his impact remains indelible. As I reflect on his life, I’m reminded of the belief that those who depart have a greater purpose beyond this earthly realm. Dan Fagan is now in the presence of the Creator, still poised to fight the good fight. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, dear friend.
