Is the LNG pipeline a worthwhile investment? | Letters to the Editor

Sen. Sullivan’s Commentary and Constitutional Concerns

Sen. Dan Sullivan recently published a commentary in the ADN (April 16) praising President Trump’s executive order aimed at unlocking Alaska’s resource potential, particularly the LNG pipeline project. While he acknowledges some shortcomings in Trump’s actions and the Department of Oil and Gas (DOGE), Sullivan urges Alaskans to focus on the larger narrative of resource development.

However, it’s crucial to consider that the “bigger picture” extends beyond mere resource exploitation; it encompasses the Constitution and the foundational American principles of freedom, checks and balances, and the rule of law. The Trump administration has faced numerous legal controversies, including the termination of agencies without congressional approval, dismissing 17 inspector generals unlawfully, and disregarding court orders.

Furthermore, a federal court has identified probable cause for criminal contempt against the administration, raising concerns about its respect for legal processes. Critics argue that this administration often bends or breaks laws to suit its agenda, undermining the essence of governance established by the nation’s founders.

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride, there are serious questions about the integrity of governance under Trump. Many assert that Congress should stand firm against any collaboration with the administration until the constitutionality of its actions is verified, ending any form of appeasement.

The LNG pipeline and Fairbanks spur may be significant projects, yet the costs and implications of supporting a controversial administration warrant serious reflection.
