Nenana Ice Classic Clock Stops Again on April 27
The Nenana Ice Classic tripod tipped over on Sunday, April 27, 2025, signaling the ice’s departure from the Tanana River. This marks the second consecutive year that the event concluded on this date.
Since its inception in 1917, the Nenana Ice Classic invites participants to purchase guesses for just $3 each, predicting when the clock will stop between February and early April. Each year, a towering 30-foot wooden tripod is positioned on the ice, linked to a clock that halts once the ice melts.
This year, the clock stopped at precisely 3:56 p.m. Organizers are currently processing tickets and entering them into a database, with an announcement of winners expected in the upcoming weeks. As of now, the jackpot amount remains unclear, though last year’s ticket sales exceeded $512,570, resulting in a winner’s jackpot of $210,155, reflecting 41% of net sales.
Interestingly, the clock stopping on April 27 is not a new trend; it has occurred four additional times in the last 108 years—specifically in 2020, 2007, and 1998. Organizers continue to celebrate the tradition and excitement surrounding this unique community event.
