The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute is inviting the public to explore its science facilities through free guided tours. Two distinct options are available for those interested in delving into Alaska’s vast research landscape.

Elvey Building Tour

The first tour takes place at the Elvey Building on UAF’s Troth Yeddha’ Campus, showcasing Alaska’s largest research institute. Visitors will get an insightful look into the institute’s history and its future, along with information on its seven research groups and over 20 facilities. Typical stops include the Alaska Satellite Facility, Alaska Earthquake Center, Wilson Alaska Technical Center, and the Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration. Guests will also have the chance to engage with graduate student researchers and pose questions. This 90-minute tour is available on Wednesdays from May 28 through August 27, starting at 1 p.m. in the Elvey Building entrance lobby, located at 2156 N. Koyukuk Drive in Fairbanks. While no registration is necessary, groups are encouraged to call ahead.

Starting at 2 p.m., these two-hour tours begin at the Range Administration Center. Comfortable walking shoes, insect repellent, and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. No reservations are necessary, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.
