Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake Strikes Interior Alaska

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale rattled the interior of Alaska on May 4, 2025, at a depth of 64.9 miles (105 km). The quake occurred at coordinates 63.1441°N, 150.6°W, approximately 54 miles (87 km) west of Cantwell, and 59 miles (95 km) north of Talkeetna.
The seismic event shook areas far beyond its epicenter, being located 60 miles (97 km) southwest of Denali Park, 70 miles (113 km) southwest of Healy, and around 84 miles (136 km) north of Skwentna. Other notable distances include 85 miles (137 km) east of Telida and 99 miles (160 km) north of Willow.
Residents felt the tremor across a wide radius, with the earthquake also being felt approximately 103 miles (167 km) northwest of Hatcher Pass, 108 miles (175 km) southwest of Nenana, and even reaching as far as 135 miles (218 km) north of Anchorage and 146 miles (236 km) southwest of Fairbanks.
This seismic event has yet to be reviewed by a seismologist, and no reports of damage or injuries have been confirmed. The Alaska Earthquake Center continues to monitor the situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
