Headline: Alaska House Resources Committee Backs AKLNG Project with Overwhelming Support
April 30, 2025 – Anchorage – A significant stride for the long-anticipated Alaska Liquefied Natural Gas (AKLNG) Project was made this week when it passed the House Resources Committee, receiving strong bipartisan support with only one dissenting vote from Anchorage Democrat Rep. Zack Fields. Fields labeled the project’s prospects as “delusional,” expressing concerns that the resolution could mislead the public about its feasibility.
House Joint Resolution 18 now heads to the House floor, formally urging President Donald Trump, Interior Secretary Douglas Burgum, and Congress to expedite the AKLNG Project. The resolution posits that the project is critical for Alaska’s economic future, U.S. energy independence, and national security.
Advocates emphasize that recent developments in permitting, financing discussions, and growing international interest have transitioned the AKLNG Project from a concept to a credible investment. They cite Trump’s executive order on resource potential as pivotal, highlighting his recent discussions with Governor Mike Dunleavy as evidence of federal commitment.
“This isn’t just good for Alaska — it’s vital for America,” the resolution asserts, forecasting thousands of jobs, billions in revenue, and enhanced U.S. energy strategic standing. Supporters claim the project would provide alternatives to adversarial energy sources, reinforcing the U.S. as a reliable energy exporter.
Despite Fields’ objections, many expect the resolution to receive wide bipartisan support when presented to the full House. Notably, Gov. Dunleavy expressed optimism, pointing to a unique federal momentum under Trump as a catalyst for advancing the project.
Commenting on the proceedings, Brett Huber of Power the Future criticized Fields’ stance, emphasizing the project’s potential benefits for all Alaskans. The resolution is backed by key legislative figures, including House Minority Leader Rep. Mia Costello and several other representatives.
