New Patrol Vessel Delivered for Alaska State Troopers

May 6, 2025 – Bay Weld Boats of Homer, Alaska, has announced the delivery of a new aluminum patrol vessel, the Kellutuq, designed specifically for the Alaska State Troopers to operate in Bristol Bay’s challenging waters. This custom-built vessel is engineered for law enforcement missions in shallow, remote locations while providing overnight comfort for extended patrols.

The Kellutuq measures 36’x11’ and draws only 22 inches of water. It is powered by twin Cummins QSB 6.7L diesel engines, each delivering 425 hp, combined with MJP twin UJ305 water jets for optimal maneuverability. The vessel features robust construction using .25″ and .19″ 5086 aluminum plating, ensuring durability in harsh marine environments.

With a cruising speed of 26 to 30 knots and a top speed of 35 to 37 knots, the Kellutuq excels in performance. Control is facilitated by a Glendinning two-station electronic system that includes joystick control and LCD displays. The redundant hydraulic system ensures reliability during operations.

“This build for the Troopers was unique as we adapted our proven 35’ medium class platform to include an inboard diesel and water-jet propulsion,” said Eric Engebretsen, owner and president of Bay Weld Boats. The vessel offers a range of 500 nautical miles with its 500-gallon fuel capacity and has accommodations for up to four troopers, featuring three bunks and a full kitchen.

The Kellutuq is equipped with advanced electronics, including a complete Garmin navigation suite and other essential communication systems. The rear cargo deck is designed to carry up to 4,000 pounds of equipment, making it a versatile tool for law enforcement in the region.
