Alaska Man Charged After Teen Dies from Fentanyl Overdose
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) – A 45-year-old man, Sean Mobley, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the fentanyl overdose death of 16-year-old Alena Toennis, whose body was discovered on a powerline trail in November.
According to the Alaska State Troopers (AST), Mobley has been charged with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. An investigation by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation revealed that Mobley supplied fentanyl to Toennis and subsequently abandoned her on a Wasilla trail while she was overdosing.
Officials reported that Toennis died as a direct result of the fentanyl overdose. Troopers were alerted to Toennis’ body around 7:20 a.m. on November 15, and she was formally identified three days later. Her aunt, Crystal Drake Toennis, shared on social media that the girl’s body was located behind a business near the intersection of Seldon and Bogard Roads.
A representative from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District confirmed that Alena Toennis was a former student, having dropped out the previous year. The last school she attended was Mat-Su Central School.
Mobley is currently held at the Mat-Su Pretrial facility as the investigation continues into this tragic incident.
