Obituary: Russell Amerson (1950-2025)
Fairbanks, AK — Russell Amerson, a cherished resident of Fairbanks, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on March 12, 2025. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends.
Born on August 15, 1950, in Ketchikan, Alaska, Russell spent his early years immersed in the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness, where he developed a lifelong passion for the outdoors. After graduating from Ketchikan High School, he went on to earn a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His career saw him dedicated to various environmental initiatives, earning him respect within the community.
Russell was more than just an environmental advocate; he was a devoted family man. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda, in 1971, and together they raised three children, instilling in them a profound love for nature and conservation. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he found joy in fishing, hiking, and sharing his love for the natural world with others.
Russell is remembered not only for his professional contributions but also for his kindness and humor. He was involved in numerous community projects and volunteered with local organizations, always eager to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Sarah, Michael, and Jonathan; and several grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy. A service honoring Russell’s life will be held at the Fairbanks Community Center on March 20, 2025, at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fairbanks Environmental Coalition in Russell’s memory.
Russell Amerson’s life was a testament to the beauty of the Alaskan spirit, and his contributions to the community will be felt for generations to come.
