Press Release: Icon of the Seas Makes Historic Stop in Ponce, Puerto Rico
Ponce, Puerto Rico – The Port of Ponce celebrated a significant milestone today with the arrival of the Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, marking its inaugural stop in Puerto Rico. This event, organized by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), aims to stimulate the economy throughout the southern and western regions of the island.
Willianette Robles Cancel, PRTC’s director, welcomed visitors at the port, emphasizing that this docking positions Puerto Rico as a premier Caribbean destination. The PRTC has collaborated with the Port of Ponce Authority, local municipalities, and Royal Caribbean to create an enriching experience for the ship’s passengers and crew.
A comprehensive plan was put in place to enhance the tourism experience, including 15 unique onboard excursions. These activities range from guided tours of Ponce’s historical landmarks to eco- and agrotourism visits, culinary workshops, and opportunities for shopping and exploration of natural attractions, such as beaches and caves.
To support visitors, the port has established several facilities, including a welcome center featuring reception tents, designated areas for prepaid tours, and promotional pavilions. Additionally, complimentary transportation to the urban center and exclusive shopping transfers for crew members have been arranged, alongside cultural events and entertainment throughout the town.
Governor Jenniffer González Colón is scheduled to hold a press conference at 11:00 a.m. today, marking the occasion and participating in the welcoming festivities for the Icon of the Seas.
This landmark event is poised to bolster the local tourism sector, further enhancing Puerto Rico’s reputation as a destination of choice in the Caribbean.
