Ken Thompson Retires After 25 Years of Dedicated Service on Alaska Air Group Board

After 25 years of dedicated service, Ken Thompson is retiring from the board of Alaska Air Group, leaving behind a rich legacy rooted in Alaska values and a commitment that extends beyond formal director responsibilities. A founding member of the board’s Safety Committee following the tragic flight 261 incident, Thompson has actively contributed to nearly every board committee over the years.

“Ken has been a trusted advisor to the management team, offering wisdom and perspective that have helped guide us through many critical moments in our history,” says Alaska CEO Ben Minicucci. “His deep understanding of the company’s values and his strategic mindset have been instrumental in shaping key decisions that have strengthened our company. We will miss his leadership and wish him well.”

In recognition of his contributions, Thompson was honored in 2019 as one of the 100 most influential corporate directors by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).

The Alaska Air Group board consists of directors who serve one-year terms, elected during the company’s annual meeting of stockholders. With the recent election of Shimer, the board now comprises 9 independent director seats, while CEO Ben Minicucci continues to serve as a non-independent director.

Thompson’s departure marks the end of an era for Alaska Air Group, and he will be remembered for his invaluable insights and steadfast commitment to the company’s mission.
