WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Casey Means, a wellness influencer and physician, as his choice for Surgeon General, replacing previously selected Janette Nesheiwat. Trump praised Means on social media, stating she possesses “impeccable ‘MAHA’ credentials” aligned with his “Make America Healthy Again” initiative.

Means, who has no prior government experience, left her surgical residency due to disillusionment with conventional medicine. She founded the health tech company Levels aimed at monitoring blood sugar and other health metrics. Known for her advocacy against processed foods, she links dietary habits to various health issues, including obesity and chronic diseases.

Means’ influence stems from her involvement with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign, where she played a vital advisory role. Her brother, Calley Means, also close to Kennedy, serves as a White House adviser and promotes policies tied to the MAHA agenda. Critics argue that her views on diet oversimplify complex health problems, with some experts noting that not all processed foods are harmful.

The switch in nominations follows scrutiny of Nesheiwat, a supportive figure for Trump whose prior medical credentials were questioned. Reports suggest she faced challenges to her confirmation due to concerns about her background and public perceptions.
