Sons of Norway Celebrates Syttende Mai
FAIRBANKS, AK – The Sons of Norway held a vibrant Syttende Mai celebration on May 17, honoring Norway’s Constitution Day with a mix of traditional festivities and community spirit. The event took place at the local community center, drawing in families and friends eager to celebrate their Norwegian heritage.
The celebration featured a lively parade, complete with colorful bunads (traditional Norwegian costumes) and flags that filled the streets. Attendees enjoyed various performances showcasing Norwegian music and dance, providing a cultural experience that delighted many. Children participated in games and activities designed to educate them about Norway’s rich history and traditions.
Food was another highlight, with the Sons of Norway serving traditional Norwegian dishes, including lefse, krumkake, and other delicacies that brought a taste of Norway to Fairbanks. Community members also had the chance to learn about Norway’s history through informational booths that featured artifacts and stories from Norway’s past.
