A spokesperson for Taylor Swift has criticized the attempt to subpoena her as a witness in the ongoing legal dispute involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, describing it as an effort to exploit Swift’s name for publicity. The case pertains to the 2024 film “It Ends With Us,” with Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, issuing the subpoena. Swift’s team asserts that she has no relevant information to contribute, clarifying that she had no involvement in the film’s production or creative decisions and only licensed a song for it. The spokesperson emphasized that such subpoenas serve as “tabloid clickbait” rather than addressing the case facts.
The legal conflict began when Lively filed a civil rights complaint against Baldoni for alleged sexual harassment during filming, claiming retaliatory measures were taken against her after she voiced concerns about his behavior. Baldoni has vehemently denied these accusations, calling them “completely false” and accusing Lively of a smear campaign. He has also filed lawsuits against The New York Times for libel over its reporting on Lively’s claims, and against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and her representative for defamation, seeking $400 million in damages.
Swift became part of the headlines after Baldoni’s lengthy lawsuit mentioned her in a text message exchange, where she was referred to as a “megacelebrity friend.” Despite the attention, Swift’s role in the matter remains insignificant, as she did not participate in the film’s production. A trial related to the situation is expected to take place in March 2026 in New York.
