High School Sports Recap – May 7, 2025
In a thrilling baseball matchup at Mulcahy Stadium, Gideon Lesslie, the senior catcher for Service High School, showcased his skills with a pivotal catch as South Anchorage’s Landon Gasser scored. This highlight moment underscored the Cougars’ impressive 16-9 victory over the Wolverines.
Soccer Highlights
This week, the girls’ soccer teams saw several dominant performances, with Dimond defeating Bartlett 10-0 and South Anchorage overcoming Service 5-1. The boys’ matches also featured strong showings, especially from Service, who edged South 1-0.
Softball and Baseball Updates
Softball action saw Dimond prevail over Service 8-5, while Colony secured an 11-0 win against Service in a later matchup. On the baseball diamond, the highlights included Service’s solid performance against South with a score of 16-9, and a key match-up resulting in a 15-3 victory over Bartlett.
Track and Field Results
During the Anchorage Invite, the girls’ team standings saw Dimond on top with 27 points, followed closely by Chugiak and Mountain City Christian Academy. Chugiak led the boys’ standings with 25 points, showcasing the competitive spirit of local high school athletics.
Community Events
The 2025 Love a Nurse Run 5k gathered numerous participants with Wesley McQuillin taking first place in the male category and Michelle Isaev leading the females. Additionally, the UAA Turnagain Arm Trail Run highlighted remarkable performances across various distances.
