Alaska State Trooper shoots and critically injures a woman in the Meadow Lakes area, officials report.

Trooper Shoots Woman in Meadow Lakes Incident

In a troubling incident late Friday night, an Alaska State Trooper shot and seriously injured a woman in the Meadow Lakes area, just west of Wasilla. The altercation occurred after the woman aimed a weapon, later identified as a BB gun resembling a semiautomatic handgun, at the officer.

The events unfolded around 10:26 p.m. when troopers conducted a welfare check on the woman, who had made multiple 911 calls. Upon arriving at her home, the officers requested that she exit with her hands empty. Instead, the woman produced what appeared to be a handgun, pointing it directly at the trooper. In response to her actions, the trooper discharged his weapon, striking the woman.

Initial reports indicate that the BB gun lacked an orange tip, which is standard on many airsoft weapons to differentiate them from real firearms. Emergency medical services were called, and the woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The trooper involved was equipped with a functioning body-worn camera during the encounter, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. He has been placed on administrative leave for seven days, in accordance with Alaska Department of Public Safety policies. The trooper’s identity will be revealed in three days.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is now overseeing the case, with further review from the state Office of Special Prosecutions.
