From Rock Bottom to Rescue Mission: Niall Harbison’s Journey to Save Street Dogs

Koh Samui, Thailand – Niall Harbison, after a harrowing battle with alcoholism, found solace and purpose in an unexpected place: the streets inhabited by malnourished dogs. Upon his recovery, Harbison began feeding stray dogs, a compassion-driven endeavor that quickly blossomed. “I started with just one or two dogs,” he recalled. “Now, we feed 1,200 every day and rescue numerous others.”

A pivotal moment in Harbison’s journey was the rescue of a severely malnourished dog named Tina. Chained and used for breeding, she was on the brink of death when he found her. “She reminded me of myself in a way,” he said, recalling their instant bond. Sadly, Tina lived only six more months due to kidney issues, but her impact was profound, propelling Harbison towards a larger mission to care for stray dogs.

Inspired by Tina’s spirit, Harbison established a dog sanctuary that has become a cornerstone of a global effort to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehouse stray animals. His ambitious plans include the construction of "Tina’s Hospital," a state-of-the-art facility aimed at treating vulnerable street dogs. Each month, his initiatives help sterilize approximately 7,000 dogs, crucial for managing the street dog population.

“We’re doing this in Tina’s name,” Harbison emphasized, committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of countless neglected animals. His story, marked by resilience and compassion, highlights the transformative power of kindness and serves as an inspirational call to action for dog lovers worldwide.
