Deadly Plane Crash on Kenai Peninsula: NTSB Releases Preliminary Report

New details have emerged regarding the tragic plane crash on the Kenai Peninsula that claimed the lives of two individuals last month. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its preliminary report detailing the final moments of the flight.

The incident involved a Cessna T207 that was approaching the Nanwalek airport when the pilot, David Bunker, issued a haunting radio transmission: “I’m going around, there’s something on the runway.” This alarming message was overheard by a nearby pilot just moments before the aircraft lost control during the go-around maneuver and subsequently crashed.

Witnesses reported observing a dog on the runway at approximately the same time as the accident. While the investigation remains ongoing, the NTSB has indicated that the presence of an animal could have contributed to Bunker’s decision to abort the landing. The crash resulted in the tragic deaths of both Bunker and a passenger onboard.

The NTSB will continue its investigation, analyzing flight data and other evidence before releasing a comprehensive final report in the future. This incident highlights the potential dangers posed by wildlife on runways and the pressing need for safety measures in aviation.
