Alaska Fairbanks Claims Game Four Victory in Governor’s Cup Series
Fairbanks, Alaska – The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) edged out the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) in a thrilling game four of the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup, scoring three unanswered goals to secure a 4-2 victory. With this win, the season series is now tied 2-2.
The action commenced with Ryan Johnson netting his team-leading 11th goal of the season during a power play at 13:16 in the first period, with assists from teammates Dimitry Kebreau and Conor Cole. However, UAA quickly responded, leveling the score just three minutes later when William Lawson-Body capitalized on a chaotic moment in front of the net.
In a swift turn of events, UAF regained the lead just 32 seconds later when Nathan Rickey unleashed a powerful slap shot past UAA goalkeeper Tyler Krivtsov, giving the Nanooks a 2-1 advantage. The scoring continued with Matt Hubbarde sealing the victory for UAF with a goal at 1:27 of the third period during a 4-on-4 play.
Throughout the match, the Nanooks maintained a slight edge in shots on goal, totaling 30 to UAA’s 28. Krivtsov made 27 saves for the Seawolves, while UAA’s special teams managed to convert 1-for-3 on the power play, without allowing UAF any attempts during the game.
The two teams will meet again for game five of the series on Saturday in Fairbanks, adding to the excitement of this closely contested rivalry. Fans can expect another exhilarating showdown as each team fights for dominance in the Governor’s Cup.
