$52 Million Secured in Series B Funding for Glioblastoma Treatment Innovation

Alpheus Medical Secures $52 Million in Series B Funding to Advance Innovative Cancer Treatment

[City, State] – [Date] – Alpheus Medical, an emerging player in oncology, has successfully closed a $52 million Series B financing round aimed at enhancing its groundbreaking sonodynamic therapy (SDT) for solid body cancers. This financing, which was oversubscribed, was co-led by HealthQuest Capital and Samsara BioCapital, with additional participation from notable investors such as OrbiMed, Action Potential Venture Capital, and the American Cancer Society’s BrightEdge.

Alpheus Medical’s innovative platform employs a non-thermal, tumor-selective approach, combining low-intensity diffuse ultrasound (LIDU) with oral 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA). This method allows for the non-invasive destruction of cancer cells in an outpatient setting, without the need for sedation or imaging—particularly promising for patients with newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive brain cancers.

The newly raised funds are earmarked for a Phase 2B randomized controlled trial assessing the effectiveness of SDT in glioblastoma patients. This trial represents a significant step toward validating the treatment’s clinical impact.

Dr. Conrad Wang, a partner at HealthQuest Capital, highlighted the unique challenges presented by glioblastomas, stating, “This investment reflects our commitment to advancing transformative technologies that seek to fill critical gaps in patient unmet needs.”

Vijay Agarwal, MD, President and CEO of Alpheus Medical, expressed optimism about the implications of this funding: “This investment is a key inflection point for Alpheus and the glioblastoma community—advancing sonodynamic therapy from promise to clinical validation.”

With this crucial financial backing, Alpheus Medical is well-positioned to significantly reshape treatment protocols for glioblastoma and improve outcomes for patients facing this formidable disease.
