Moose Gives Birth Outside Anchorage Hospital

May 16 (UPI) — A remarkable moment unfolded at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, when a moose made a surprise appearance and gave birth to a healthy calf on the grass just outside the facility. Witnesses were captivated by the sight on Thursday, capturing both photos and videos of the event.

Louise C., a bystander on her way to the hospital’s café, described the scene: “I see a ton of people peering over the balcony and I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ and so I go over and there’s a moose who just gave birth. It was so exciting because this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing to witness,” she told KTUU-TV. “It was just the cutest thing ever and I’ve never witnessed something like that.”

After the birth, the mother moose and her calf lingered in the area for several hours, delighting onlookers who shared in the rare experience. This isn’t the first time Providence Hospital has made headlines due to moose encounters; earlier in 2023, a young moose was spotted roaming the hospital lobby, snacking on the decorative plants.
