Law Enforcement Officers Unite for Special Olympics Alaska

This weekend, law enforcement officers across Alaska will put their running shoes to a noble cause, participating in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to support Special Olympics Alaska. Scheduled for Saturday, the event will take place in 16 communities including Anchorage.

The Torch Run serves not only as a fundraiser but also as a platform for inclusivity and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Officers and community members will come together to advocate for the athletes and raise essential funds for crucial equipment and programs. Ayesha Abdul-Jilil from Special Olympics Alaska expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “It’s very fun. I love the torch run.” Matt Fraize from the Anchorage Police Department echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of community involvement: “It’s a great honor to raise money and to show them we have their back—we’re here to support and protect them.”

This year, the goal is to raise $150,000 to benefit Special Olympics Alaska. The Anchorage run will kick off Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Special Olympics facility, and the public is invited to cheer on the participants, fostering a profound sense of unity and collaboration.
