Bruce Springsteen Kicks Off U.K. Tour by Declaring Trump ‘Unfit’ for Office

At the opening show of his British tour in Manchester, Bruce Springsteen strongly criticized the Trump administration for its authoritarian tendencies, civil rights rollbacks, and illegal deportations. Springsteen, a longtime liberal and supporter of Democratic candidates, expressed his discontent with the current state of America, describing it as being under the control of “a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” He encouraged the audience to raise their voices against authoritarianism, emphasizing the need for freedom and democracy.

During the concert, Springsteen detailed his concerns about the Trump era, lamenting the persecution of those exercising free speech and dissent. He accused the administration of neglecting the world’s poorest children, inflicting suffering on American workers, and undermining historic civil rights advancements, which helped create a more just society. He criticized the government for abandoning allies while siding with dictators, as well as defunding universities that don’t conform to its ideology.

Springsteen also pointed out that many elected officials failed to protect citizens from the “abuses of an unfit president.” Nevertheless, he assured fans that the “real America,” despite its flaws, is still a great country, and he expressed optimism that it would endure through these challenging times.

In response, the White House dismissed Springsteen’s comments, stating that the millions of Americans who voted for Trump do not align with the views of the “elitist” artist. This performance is part of Springsteen’s “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour, during which he plans to debut 83 unreleased songs, highlighting his enduring engagement with American themes and issues.
