Body of Missing Alaska ATV Rider Identified

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) – The body of a man who tragically fell through the ice of a river while riding an ATV in Alaska has been found and identified. Authorities confirmed on Friday that the remains of 32-year-old Skye Rench were discovered by a private pilot near the mouth of the Susitna River.

On March 6, Rench fell into the water while crossing the river on an ATV alongside Sean Kendall, who remains missing. Alaska State Troopers, with assistance from a member of Alaska Dive, Rescue and Recovery, retrieved Rench’s body, which was subsequently transported to Wasilla airport for an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner.

Heidi Goozen, Rench’s fiancée, revealed that he was engaged in contract work for Alaska Directional, a drilling company involved in a remote project near Point Mackenzie that necessitated crossing the river. Rench was not only a dedicated worker but also an avid snowmachiner who competed in the annual Iron Dog race, recognized as the “World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race.”

As search efforts continue, concerns remain for Kendall, whose whereabouts are still unknown. The case underscores the dangers that come with ice-covered waterways in Alaska, particularly during the transitional seasons.

Officials urge the public to exercise caution in similar conditions, highlighting the risks while traveling on ice-covered surfaces. Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this tragedy during this difficult time.
