Devastating Fire Claims Family Home in Eagle River

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A family home has been reduced to ashes in Eagle River following a “devastating” fire on Saturday night, according to the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD).

Emergency services received a 9-1-1 call just after 10:13 p.m. regarding a garage fire on Savage Drive. The situation escalated rapidly, and the family was unaware of the blaze until they heard loud cracks and pops emanating from their home. Fortunately, all family members were able to evacuate safely.

Neighbors reported hearing sounds reminiscent of gunfire, which turned out to be bursts of explosions from the burning structure. Firefighters faced significant challenges during the hours-long firefight, notably the lack of water access due to the home’s elevated location on the mountain. AFD confirmed that their command operations did not conclude until 4:10 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Alaska’s News Source attempted to obtain photos and comments from AFD but had not received any information by the time of publication.

For those who witnessed the incident or have any further information, the community continues to rally support for the affected family in the wake of this tragic event.
