Alaska LNG’s $44 billion project nears FID, partnering search ongoing, with Worley finalizing engineering.

Glenfarne Alaska LNG Project Advances with Worley Engineering Partnership

Glenfarne Alaska LNG, a subsidiary of the Glenfarne Group, has appointed Australia’s Worley to oversee the final engineering works for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project in Alaska. This move brings the project closer to a final investment decision (FID), as Glenfarne serves as the majority owner and lead developer alongside the State of Alaska’s Alaska Gasline Development Corporation.

Worley has begun its assignment to undertake additional engineering tasks and prepare a detailed final cost estimate essential for achieving FID. The firm will build upon previously completed engineering work while updating the cost of the proposed pipeline. Additionally, Worley has been selected as the preferred engineering firm for the Cook Inlet Gateway LNG import terminal and as a project delivery advisor across Glenfarne’s Alaska LNG undertakings.

Brendan Duval, CEO and Founder of Glenfarne Group, emphasized the importance of this project for Alaska’s energy security, stating that declining production risks both state and national security. He noted the urgency of expediting the pipeline’s development and forming strategic partnerships to advance execution efforts.

With an estimated cost of $44 billion, the project has attracted interest from Asian investors, including Japan and South Korea. The proposed 807-mile, 42-inch Alaska LNG pipeline is designed to satisfy both Alaska’s domestic needs and supply 20 million tons per annum to the LNG export facility in Nikiski.

The pipeline will be constructed in two phases, with operations expected to commence in 2025. Mark Trueman from Worley expressed pride in supporting this vital project to enhance energy security for Alaska and beyond.

With other LNG endeavors, Glenfarne expects to bolster its position in the market, continuing to seek partners to maximize the project’s potential.
