Glenfarne Alaska LNG Selects Worley for Key Engineering Role
Glenfarne Alaska LNG, LLC, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Group, LLC, has appointed Worley to provide vital engineering services and finalize cost estimates for the Alaska LNG Pipeline, aiming for a final investment decision in 2025. The ongoing work will enhance existing engineering data and update cost projections for the 807-mile, 42-inch gas pipeline.
Worley has also been designated as the preferred engineering firm for the Cook Inlet Gateway LNG import terminal and will act as a project delivery adviser for Glenfarne’s broader Alaska LNG initiatives. Brendan Duval, CEO and founder of Glenfarne Group, emphasized the urgency of the pipeline project, noting, “The declining gas production from Cook Inlet risks Alaska’s energy security, as well as U.S. national security and military readiness.” He further stated that prioritizing the pipeline’s development is critical to mitigating the natural gas shortages affecting the state.
Duval praised Worley’s extensive experience in Alaska and their previous collaboration on the Texas LNG project. With over 60 years of operation in Alaska, Worley brings a wealth of expertise in engineering, procurement, and construction. Mark Trueman, President Americas for Worley, expressed pride in being selected, saying, “Our specialist team is well placed to support Glenfarne in moving this vital project forward, improving energy security for Alaska and the world.”
The Alaska LNG Pipeline is intended to transport natural gas from the North Slope, addressing both Alaska’s domestic needs and providing supplies for the 20 million tonnes per annum Alaska LNG export facility. The project will proceed in two phases, with the first phase delivering gas to the Anchorage region. Additionally, Glenfarne is actively pursuing strategic partners to enhance the execution of the Alaska LNG project.
