71 Dogs Rescued from Severe Neglect in Anchorage
On Friday, Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) and the Anchorage Police Department seized 71 dogs from a home in Anchorage, Alaska, following reports of severe neglect. Officers described the situation as “one of the most severe neglect cases we’ve encountered,” and have initiated a criminal investigation, stating they will pursue charges against the property owner.
The dogs were discovered living in “unimaginable conditions,” prompting the AACC to act swiftly. This mass rescue effort has significantly overtaxed the AACC shelter, which has tripled its dog population in a single day. “Just today we have taken in around 70 dogs and are now extremely limited on kennel space,” the AACC shared on Instagram.
Fortunately, the local community rallied to support the shelter. By the weekend, 45 of the rescued dogs were adopted, allowing the AACC to expedite the process of finding homes for the remaining animals. The dogs are now in a safe environment at the shelter, awaiting their forever homes.
“The best way to help us in this situation is by choosing to adopt a new forever friend,” the AACC emphasized in their social media outreach. For those unable to adopt or not local to Anchorage, the AACC has set up an Amazon Wishlist where community members can purchase necessities and toys for the dogs.
