Alaska Airlines’ Record Growth in International Travel

Wednesday, May 28, 2025 – Alaska Airlines is celebrating a remarkable surge in international growth this year, fueled by increasing travel demand between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The airline has expanded operations to vital resort hubs, major Canadian cities, and vital transborder points, enhancing its status as a leader in international travel from the U.S. West Coast.

Mexico, in particular, has become central to Alaska Airlines’ strategy, with 13 of its 20 busiest international routes linking West Coast airports to popular Mexican resort destinations. The airline offers year-round services to locations like San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta, with Los Angeles-San Jose del Cabo being its busiest route, featuring 150 flights monthly.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) serves as the primary hub for Alaska’s international operations, generating substantial traffic with ten of its top twenty routes departing from this location. The airline also connects LAX to Central America, including direct flights to Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) complements Alaska’s strategy with significant services to Mexico and Canada. Notably, the SEA-San Jose del Cabo route remains a favorite among Pacific Northwest travelers.

In addition to high-demand routes, Alaska Airlines targets niche markets by offering services to underrepresented destinations such as Belize City, reflecting a commitment to broadening its international offerings.
